Treatment For Genital Warts In Men

Helpful Tips And Information On The Treatment For Genital Warts In Men.

Genital warts in men are both embarrassing and uncomfortable. But there is treatment for genital warts in men that can help minimize breakouts and improve general comfort. The key is to understand first what causes genital warts to be able to understand how to prevent further infection and prevention. Genital warts, also known as venereal warts are caused by the STD HPV or Human Papillomavirus. The warts may be flesh colored or gray patches and may itch and possibly secrete discharge. HPV or genital warts is one of the most highly contracted std's in the United States, with the main age group of infection between 17 and 33 years old. They are highly contagious by skin to skin contact, so it is very important to be treated if there is any suspicion of infection.

In men, genital warts appear on the scrotum, penis and rectal areas and also can infect the urethra. Depending on the type of HPV, treatment options may be available. If the warts are bleeding continuously even with direct pressure or the warts are blocking the urethra opening then you should go to the emergency room immediately, these are very serious developments and should be treated as such. At home, make sure not to do anything to cause them to bleed, such as shaving the area. Also, do not touch the warts as they can be transferred that way. If you do by chance touch them, make sure to wash your hands. Do not try to squeeze or puncture the warts, this will not help; it will only spread them further and cause injury.

Instead, talk to your PCP (Primary Care Physician) about the 3 main treatments available. These treatments are Cryotherapy, Laser treatment and Electrodessication. With Cryotherapy, the warts are simply frozen off with liquid nitrogen and have few side effects. Laser treatment, which is only used with recurrent cases, general anesthesia is given and the warts are removed by a laser. This treatment can cost a bit of money though and may cause scarring and longer healing time. In Electrodessication, local anesthesia is given and an electrical current is used to destroy the cells that cause the warts. Whatever your choice may be, there is treatment for genital warts in men, especially if they become uncomfortable and unmanageable.
